Highwire Gallery will present the responses to our second annual Open Call to Artists this month in Fishtown, at 2040 Frankford Ave. Since our inception in 1988, Highwire has celebrated a wide range of artists, from the untrained to the obsessively schooled. Here we continue to invite the impulse to create, this time free from juried rejection. It's our little gesture of inclusivity, in a city proud of it's DIY attitude, but often burdened by a lack of resources and support in the arts. This exhibit limited the scale of work to 24", but otherwise allowed local artists to hang what they wanted to hang. Be sure to check it out. Opening on Fri, Dec 4, 5-9pm, and the show runs through Dec 27th (we'll be closed Dec 24-25). Hours: Thursday 12-4 pm, Friday 3-7 pm, Saturday & Sunday 12-5 pm
Our First Friday in Fishtown should prove to be a great event this month, with local artists and crafters set up all around Frankford Ave. Start here with us at the corner of Frankford and Susquehanna, and we'll have maps so you can visit the rest. Stop back at 9pm for the kick-off of our new music series hosted by Steven Tobin. We'll have 3 acts for you...Tiny Concept, Cash Slave Clique, & Two Years on Welfare, all for a modest donation. |
