Another Jazz Night
(Inspired by the music of Ben, Jef,
Matt & Craig)
Striding the spaces between swing & funk,
they danced effortlessly before their peers and less,
creating a place where the maelstroms of personal and individual conflict resolved
into power and fluidity,
inspiring all in their presence to join
in the special view just around the bend,
the faces and traces on the walls responded to the glances
and perchance led to another reflection of themselves
in this modern world of fingerprint welcoming,
they worked it out,
saw it for what it was,
and said what they saw around the bend,
their senses melded into ether,
their pre-ceptions enabling completion of each others thoughts
as the patterns became warm,
remembering echoes of classical form,
the continuum of perception was perpetuated,
the hard work proceeded unabated,
undeflated,
but yet they still needed to stop at points,
to watch each other as they watched each other,
to attempt a guess
as to how many more turns this one would take,
they let each other down easily,
the air was imbued with comment
as the frequencies were generated,
venerated
and led to a general sense of calm,
across the rain and snow and sand and ice,
the terrain ebbed and flowed,
they were introduced slowly as the legs,
lungs,
heart and soul,
mind,
then suddenly,
a sprint into rivers of rhythm
sliding across the rug,
muscle and bone
fatigued and relieved by their ability to change,
landing preparations were made for rest,
as the winds shifted to the eastern sphere,
as the sphinx came into view,
around the bend, heart and soul gave way to the purpose of the mind,
the chase was on again,
pushed by the bow now,
stringhorns
blended to sorrow
as it was understood and accepted into the fabric of the thing,
questions being answered as they were asked,
and asked again,
more coarsely than fine,
a tribute to all that came before,
the tributaries flowed back to the source
like songs both sung and unsung.
